We zijn er trots op dat de eerste plugin-versie beschikbaar is voor gebruik met Claris Pro en Claris Server. Hoewel beide productlijnen hun kleine verschillen hebben, zijn we erin geslaagd een enkele plugin voor beide te hebben. U kunt de MBS FileMaker Plugin gebruiken in Claris Pro lokaal op macOS of Windows en in de Linux-versie van Claris Server.

Omdat transacties heel nuttig zijn in databases, hebben we die toegevoegd voor onze MongoDB-functies. Je kunt een transactie starten, een paar wijzigingen doen en later beslissen of je wijzigingen vastlegt of terugdraait. Als je niet in een transactie zit, worden alle wijzigingen automatisch vastgelegd.

Voor iOS hebben we nieuwe PhotoPicker functies toegevoegd om toegang te krijgen tot de Photos database op het apparaat. Zonder vervelende toestemmingsdialogen kan de gebruiker de te importeren foto's selecteren en deze doorgeven aan uw FileMaker-toepassing.

Ontwikkelaars die Windows gebruiken met FileMaker zullen blij zijn met een klein zoekvakje in het databaseontwerpdialoogvenster wanneer ze op de relatiegrafiek kijken. Probeer het uit en laat ons weten hoe het gaat, zodat we het in de toekomst kunnen verbeteren.

De matrixfuncties hebben een paar nieuwe trucs gekregen. Ten eerste kunt u namen van kolommen en rijen instellen met een lijst. De functie Matrix.ConvertDataType kan het gegevenstype van waarden in de matrix wijzigen, zodat ze later beter kunnen worden gebruikt in SQL-invoegingen.

Ontwikkelaars op macOS zullen genieten van de nieuwe sneltoetsen command-[ en command-] in tekstweergaven, zodat je tekst van formules kunt inspringen. Het opvouwen van code klapt in If-blokken in naar de volgende else. En de URL's in commentaren kunnen beginnen met fmp://$/? om de huidige bestandsnaam te gebruiken.

Je kunt instellen welke sleutels binaire gegevens zijn voor LDAP met LDAP.SetBinaryKeys functie. De functie CNContact.Show werkt op macOS met een popover. De functie TOTP.Calculate kan meer algoritmen voor hashing gebruiken, de functie BinaryFile.WriteInt kan de endian-status opgeven, je kunt een bestand op Windows alleen-lezen maken met Files.SetReadOnly en App.GetFocussedWindowTitle kan je de titel van het voorste venster geven.

Tot slot hebben we de CURL-bibliotheek bijgewerkt naar versie 7.86.0, DynaPDF naar 4.0.70.200, LCMS naar 2.14, openssl naar 1.1.1s, SQLAPI naar 5.2.2, SQLite naar 3.39.4 en Xcode naar 14.0.1.

Visiting conferences in October in Europe provides a lot of new ideas. This release comes with two enhancements to FileMaker itself (for MacOS), where the ideas came up at the conferences. First we now show you the cursor position above the text fields when entering expressions or custom functions. When you select text, we even show the selection length.

Second, with SyntaxColoring.AddContextMenuCommand method you can define your own commands for the contextual menu in script workspace on MacOS. We provide a few examples in the documentation to edit script steps or insert new ones. As you can leverage the built-in MBS commands in the menu commands, you can use XML transformations, run SQL queries, Shell or AppleScript commands and read/write text files in your expressions. You can define expressions to check syntax and coding standards for scripts, insert common snippets or do search & replace within the script. We hope the FileMaker community will collect useful commands. 

The DynaPDF functions can now create XFA stream sections in the PDF document, read and write XFA data. With the DynaPDF.GetUserRights function you can query the permissions the user has on the imported document. We improved the library loading, so you can now just pass "" for the library path. If path is empty, we will use the platform specific default name. And if empty text or just a file name is provided, we look for the library files in the same folder as the plugin.

For Apple maps on MacOS and iOS we have a couple of new properties to set for points including enabling drag with a custom drag image. Points can now change their image and define an extra selected image. Overlays can change colors and line width. Maps can be zoomed programmatically and with MapView.MouseCoordinate function you can query the coordinate below the mouse cursor.

The web viewer on MacOS in FileMaker 16 or newer uses WebKit 2.x. For this version we added Webview.SetPrivateBrowsing function to enable private browsing mode. The Webview.AddUserScript function allows you to inject custom javascript in each website loaded. And Webview.AddScriptMessageHandler function now supports iOS, too.

The list dialog now supports a third button, you can show on screen keyboard via Window.ShowKeyboard function and query whether dark mode is enabled on a Mac. Our preferences dialog now supports dark mode, SmartCard.ReadFile supports more cards, GMImage.NewFromContainer can handle JPEG and PNG passed with wrong type and documentation includes now links to release notes and blog articles.

This version includes a few important bug fixes for running the plugin on a sever. The background threading for CURL and SQL got improved to avoid crashes. Our Linux plugin for FileMaker Cloud for AWS got an important fix to avoid crashes with buffer overrun after several hours of running. Please update your servers to avoid running into those issues.

Finally we updated DynaPDF library to version 4.0.33.95, LibSSH to 1.9.0, openssl to 1.1.1d, SQLAPI to 5.0.1, SQLite to 3.30.0 and zint library to 2.6.7

Windows, the latest update to their product that is easily the most powerful

plugin currently available for FileMaker Pro. As the leading database

Integrated Development Environment supports a plugin architecture that can

easily extend the feature set of the application. MBS FileMaker Plugin 8.0 has

been updated and now includes over 5000 different functions, and the versatile

plugin has gained more new functions:

For MacOS and iOS we have new functions to do spotlight search within your

FileMaker application. You can specify the search scope and the search

expression and than you can query not just the file paths but also metadata

about found items.

When you use FileMaker for development on MacOS, you can benefit from our

syntax highlighting and various enhancements to the script workspace. New in

this release is the Command-F shortcut for various windows to search text

within a custom function or calculation. Using Command-Option-C you can copy

the formatted text of a calculation and post it to a forum.

For iOS a lot of more functions are now supported. This includes PDFKit

functions to merge PDF files, AVExport functions to export videos,

CGImageSource functions to convert HEIF images to PNG or JPEG, Clipboard

functions and Events functions to work with calendar items and reminders.

Our DynaPDF functions got an improved DynaPDF.ExtractText function to extract

text of a page, optionally inside a rectangle. The DynaPDF.RenderPDFFileEx

function writes images for all pages of a PDF file to a given folder.

For CURL on Windows we added support for IDN domains, so you can use umlauts

and other special characters in domain names there. This requires Windows

Vista or newer and will return error on Windows XP. On Mac all file paths

passed into CURL functions are now properly encoded, always as UTF-8.

The XL Functions can now read and write areas of cells, so you can batch write

data to the sheets. For loading, we better return errors and we allow to load

files partially to faster query only some data.

Our CSV Split and Import functions now supports tab character as separator and

better handles multi line texts.

The Webviewer on MacOS in FileMaker 16 can now send messages from JavaScript

to trigger scripts in FileMaker. You can register your own script message

handlers with a given name to trigger scripts from JavaScript.

For LDAP we have new JSON based functions to pass LDAP records or query them

as JSON data. For switzerland we got a new sample database to show how to make

swiss QR-Codes. Our PrintDialog functions on Mac can now store and restore the

configuration, so you can save the printer setup.

Finally we updated to Xcode 9.2, CURL library to version 7.57.0, DynaPDF to

version 4.0.15.42, OpenSSL to 1.1.0g and 1.0.2m and SQLAPI to version 4.2.1.

For macOS 10.13 High Sierra and iOS 11, we added new Core ML functions to use machine learning files and for example classify pictures. We also updated a few other functions like FSEvents for the new macOS version.

The new ImageView functions allow you to show an image on the layout independent of FileMaker. So you don't need a container field and you can show animated GIF images in your layout on Mac and iOS.

To enhance the script workspace, the MBS Plugin can show the script IDs in the script list. For the database design dialog, you can now show the table IDs and field IDs in the lists. We improved the contextual menus to copy in more cases and we have a new entry to copy the selection only. With Command-F and Command-L you can now jump to search and Go To Line boxes. The new ScriptWorkspace functions can be used in various FileMaker based tools to open script workspace and select scripts from a script.

For the field picker and various other utility palettes, you can now have the plugin make them optionally black and white instead of transparent. The plugin watches for those dialogs and turns them into resizable panels, if enabled in preferences.

You can now use CoreImage to detect faces, rectangles, text areas and QRCodes in images on macOS and iOS.

For the Webviewer, we now allow you to create a WebKit 1.x webview anywhere on a layout. As FileMaker 16 uses WebKit 2.x, some of the functions to query images or PDF of a webviewer are not supported for WebKit 2.x. Making our own webviewer allows to still use those functions.

If you use FileMaker iOS SDK, you can use our plugin now to query keyboard visible state. We can trigger script or evaluate expression if there is a significant time change, app goes to background or foreground and receives a low memory warning.

To better work with CSV text, we got new functions to split CSV into values. Our FM.InsertRecordCSV function can take CSV text and create records for the values in your database. For XML functions we added ways to query and set values based on a path similar to the FileMaker JSON functions.

For DynaPDF we added commands to create process and separation colors. Text can now directly be drawn rotated.

We got new commands to Copy/Cut/Paste text in webviewer, memory usage functions for SQLite, triggers for AVPlayer and SerialPort pause functions.

Finally we updated CURL Library to version 7.55.1, DynaPDF to 4.0.13.35, SQLAPI to 4.1.12, SQLite to 3.20.0 and LibXL to 3.8.1.

A quick check showed that a plugin could of course monitor mouse clicks and trigger a script if a click is done outside a given area. The new EventMonitor.SetCardWindow function allows you to define where the card is and which script to trigger in case of a click. This script can than clear the trigger with EventMonitor.ClearCardWindow and close the card.

De bedoeling was om de iOS SDK te gebruiken om zélf een applicatie te kunnen distribueren op de iPad van de werknemers. Waarom? De iPads zijn eigendom van het bedrijf. Het is de bedoeling om de iPads uit te delen met alle software reeds geïnstalleerd: Microsoft Office, Acrobat Reader, DropBox, FileMaker Go...

Dat kan niet zomaar, je moet o.a. beschikken over MDM software. M.a.w. je moet een hele weg afleggen vooraleer dit mogelijk is, maar ik dacht dat het de moeite wel waard was.

Nadat de enrollment gelukt was... moesten ik nog eens 2 weken wachten voor ik een XCode build kon exporteren als .ipa file. Testen op een aangesloten iPad kon wel, maar voor de distributie moest er een export gemaakt worden, Apple vond het nodig om nog een beetje vervelend te doen. Uiteindelijk was het zover. We zijn nu op het punt waar er nieuwe iPads aangeschaft zijn, en we bekijken welke MDM software het meest geschikt is om de software te installeren.

Deze week was 16 uit beta en krijgen de klanten uit NL en B de licentiecodes toegestuurd. Ook de iOS SDK voor 16 is officieel beschikbaar. En daar zat ik ook een beetje op te wachten, want we weten al een tijdje dat Christian van MBS hier mee bezig was.

Er is dus een extra foldertje nu in de MBS distributie: "Plugin for iOS SDK", met daarin iOS versie van de plug-in, en een extra framework waarmee je extra (notification?) functies krijgt.

Ik heb het uitgeprobeerd, en het werkt. Get ( FMInstalledPlugins ) rapporteert de MBS plug-in. Mooi!

De pricing vind ik minder goed uitgewerkt. Monkeybread Software heeft maar 1 prijs voor IOS plug-in, of je nu naar de App Store gaat met je development, of gewoon lokaal in het bedrijf gebruik wil maken van iPads ( zoals ik ) maakt geen verschil uit. Die 400 Euro is dan wel veel geld en moeilijk te verdedigen naar de klant toe. Heel veel dingen zijn ondertussen al opgelost met server side scripts. Het zou veel logischer zijn, en MBS zou meer geld verdienen denk ik, als er ook een gewone site license beschikbaar was, aan verminderde prijs, bv 200 EUR jaar 1/ 100 EUR per jaar - da's de helft.

Wat er nu zal gebeuren? Waarschijnlijk kopen we als bedrijf de licentie en verkopen de "applicatie" aan de klant. En gebruiken de licentie natuurlijk ook voor ander development. Monkeybread passeert maar 1 keer langs Start.

Misschien denkt Monkeybread dat Enterprise Enrollment iets is voor mega-bedrijven die een licentie van 400 EUR peanuts vinden. In dat geval wil ik Christian wijzen op het feit dat de voorwaarden van Apple een stuk verlaagd zijn, en dat dit dus ondertussen ook kan voor kleine bedrijven. Waardoor de iOS SDK ook interessant wordt voor kleine bedrijven.

Hoe dan ook, plug-in functionaliteit beschikbaar hebben in FileMaker Go is reuze, en zeker met de MBS plug-in. Het project is nog niet klaar, we moeten nog beslissen over de MDM software, en zijn hiermee tests aan het uitvoeren.

Inmiddels zijn we bij versie 3.2 (beta 3.3) aangeland, en omvat de plugin bijna 1700 functies (!).

Waaronder een paar erg interessante zoals PDF manipulatie, grafische functies, en recentelijk de mogelijkheid om het MacOSX adressbook te manipuleren.

Wat zou FileMaker zijn zonder de plugin van Monkeybread Software? Deze plugin biedt FileMaker ongekende uitbreidingsmogelijkheden voor een aanvaardbare prijs.

De dag wordt ingeleid en begeleid door Christian Schmitz, de maker van de plugin. Zijn nieuwe versie 7 omvat Inmiddels ruim 4400 functies verdeeld over 169 groepen. De functies zijn grotendeels Windows, Mac en FM Server compatible.

Tijdens de dag gaan we aan de slag met CURL (o.a. email, ftp), file-manipulaties, Restful API, SQL en functies die grappig en handig zijn.

Daarnaast zal Christian de verbeelding stimuleren door een vooruitblik te geven op nieuwe functies. Uiteraard is er gelegenheid voor vragen.

For playing audio on Mac, we have new AVPlayer functions. You can load audio files from file, container or URL. When playing you can select volume, playback speed and seek to any time. If you still use QTMovie functions, please switch soon.

For Windows we added new DirectoryWatcher functions. You can now watch a folder for changes and get a script triggered if the user changes something in the folder. Similar things can be done using FSEvents functions on Mac.

We improved our Audit functions to better check for fields when using FileMaker Server. This results in a massive performance improvement compared to our 7.0 plugin. Audit can now globally be enabled or disabled.

Our feature for XML file import got several improvements. The function now handles CData sections as text. New flags for importing lets you keep wrapping xml nodes and handle inner nodes as text blocks. This greatly simplifies the import of XML from SOAP web services.

The functions to edit word files can now extend tables. If your template contains a table and you want to flexible add rows and fill them, you can now duplicate a row as needed and insert it below or on the end of the table.

On Mac you can now drag PDF files on Mac to Finder and other applications. The web viewer can be hidden in case the user should not see automatic interaction. Our plugin can now make sure FileMaker stays frontmost.

Pictures returned by the plugin now include a DPI value. We have more list functions and hotkeys can now inform about keys being released. The screen functions now support multiple screens on Windows, the plugin is again compatible to Windows XP and our dialog function can now show up to 10 buttons and a stop icon.

Finally we updated PortMidi, CURL to version 7.35.1, DynaPDF to 4.0.9.24 and SQLite to 3.17.0.

New functions help you read details from X509 certificate files. You can read PKCS12 files and extract public and private keys as well as additional certificates. You can than write keys or certificates as PEM files and use them with our CURL functions.

Our new XML functions help you find nodes and attributes in XML text. You can extract text and subtrees. To process XML efficiently you can let the plugin read XML and put values in local variables in your script.

For CURL we added new functions to batch download files via FTP. Of course you can still query yourself the list of files via plugin in a directory and than download several files one after each other. But now we have options to do this all in one transfer and with the use of wildcards to specify which files to fetch.

Using the new function FM.AllowFileDragDrop you can allow users to drag and drop container with files from FileMaker to other applications, e.g. the Finder. And if needed you can switch this on/off on layout changes.

For DynaPDF we added new functions to query or set raw content of a page. You can rotate page templates and add page links or watermark annotations to your PDF pages.

As FileMaker on Mac is now 64-bit in most cases, we include an Apple Script to create 32 or 64-bit only plugin. The MBS Plugin in our plugin download is for both and you can split it to get a smaller plugin file if needed.

The functions to work on Word files have been improved. They should now be able to replace tags with multi line texts. And if you have a table in your template, we can now remove rows there, too.

When you run SQL queries in FileMaker using our FM.SQL.Execute functions, you can later query result as text. Or we provide the results properly encoded for CSV export.

We improved PrintDialog, PortMidi, LDAP, Audit, ImageCapture, SerialPort line reading, SmartCard, SQL functions and more. DynaPDF is updated to 4.0.8.19, LibXL to version 3.7.2 and SQLite to 3.16.2.

Monkeybread Software

Onder de groepen/functies vallen uiteenlopende zaken als ondersteuning van CURL (o.a. FTP, email), grafische functies, file operaties, RTF, barcoding, encryptie. Het meeste ondersteunt beide platforms OSX en Windows, en vaak ook Filemaker Server.

Doel van dit subforum is vooral om ervaringen uit te wisselen over de werking en toepassing van de plugin. De online documentatie is vooral technisch, wat vooral ontbreekt is een functionele beschrijving: wat doet een functie eigenlijk? Mogelijk kunnen we dat hier een beetje aanvullen.

Ik zou daarom ook willen voorstellen om nieuwe topics bij voorkeur per functie te starten. Dus bijvoorbeeld een topic 'Addressbook' waarin de ins en outs van de Addressbook functies worden opgenomen. Op die manier dient dit subforum meteen als een soort extra documentatie.

Voor FileMaker ontwikkelaars die met een Mac werken bevat de plugin een handige extra: syntax coloring, waarmee scriptregels en functies een eigen kleur kunnen krijgen. Alleen dat al maakt een bezoek aan de website de moeite waard: http://www.monkeybreadsoftware.de/filemaker/.

Gebruik van de plugin

De syntax voor MBS is afwijkend van de meeste andere plugins. Meestal installeert een FileMaker plugin alle mogelijkheden als afzonderlijke functies onder 'Custom functions'. Bij MBS is dat anders: er is maar één functie call, de rest wordt in de vorm van parameters aangegeven.

Een voorbeeld.

Het opvragen van een bestandslijst van een map doe je in de BaseElements plugin als volgt:

BE_ListFilesInFolder ( path {; type } ) waarbij path en type de foldernaam resp. het soort bestand (folder, file) aangeeft.

In de MBS plugin voer je zo'n opdracht als volgt uit:

MBS("Files.List"; Path; options ) waarbij "Files.List" dus gewoon een tekstargument is. Er is dus maar 1 functie 'MBS'.

Nadeel hiervan is, dat je de functie uit je hoofd moet kennen of ergens moet opzoeken, maar daar staat tegenover dat je de functieaanroep zelf kunt parametriseren. Bovendien zou een lijst met 2500 functies sowieso onpraktisch zijn.

Ik raad iedereen aan om eens een uurtje in de gereedschapskist van MBS rond te neuzen. Een bezoekje aan de documentiepagina is een goed startpunt:
