Postscript Support

John Salem

Re: Michael Kazlow’s comments (FileMaker Pro 7 Report, part 1) about the lack of support for Postscript fonts.

I was alarmed to read this as our house fonts are all Adobe’s Type 1 Postscript fonts. I telephoned both FileMaker’s Sales and Support Department here in the UK and I’ve given up! One chap in Sales didn’t know, whilst another suddenly turned defensive when I mentioned the article on MacInTouch and wouldn’t even look at it, despite my pleas and despite my checking he had Internet access beforehand!

Since the Postscript font support is critical to us - as I made very clear to FileMaker - all I wanted was a simple “Yes, it’s true - we don’t support Postscript fonts.” or “No, that isn’t true - we DO support Postscript fonts.” but after two days of trying, downloading trial versions, asking if I could have a copy of the Read Me e-mailed or faxed and even asking if anyone would read the file out to me, I give up!

One bouquet for a lady I talked to in Support (if you read this you’ll know who you are!) who at least tried but we agreed that by implication FMPro 7 does NOT support PostScript fonts, nor Apple’s .dfont format either but there’s nothing that FileMaker seem to publish which states this categorically.

So long, FileMaker, it’s been nice knowing you (since version 2.1)...

Danny,

In de FM7 Help Files vindt ik enkel dit terug :

Use only TrueType fonts. The Windows version of FileMaker Pro does not support any other font formats, such as OpenType, PostScript Type 1, bitmap, raster, or vector fonts.
