In a message dated 5/8/03 11:19:52 AM, avd@avd-ci.be writes:

When a styled text is copied and pasted in FileMaker, the style remains.

When a styled text is copied in FileMaker and pasted into Word for Mac,

style remains.

When a styled text is copied in FileMaker and pasted into Word for Windows,

style disappears!

1) Why?

2) What can we do to keep the style?

Aileen Silver - grote FileMaker dame - antwoordt meteen:

This has been a problem since FM went to the PC (way back when). It has nothing to do with FileMaker ! I had a solution that created 120 page document from one record. Since FM did not print multi page documents very well, I wanted to get it into Word (or any word processor). From the Mac, it was no problem.

Here's what I have been told by MANY experts, plug in mfgs, etc.:

The PC does NOT use the same clipboard from program to program. All the data has to go to the base of Windows (DOS) and there it loses its formatting.

Don't forget that all windows systems sit on top of DOS, even though you don't ever need to program it that way.

I said it then and I will say it now, IF anyone can get formatted text from FM to any other program, they will make a fortune :) So far, copy and paste will not work.

That being said, CAN you use XML export ? If the document is consistent (mine wasn't) and you have standard formatting, you can create an XSLT style sheet and use that.
